bad carma
(no, that’s not mis-spelled) I just need to leave the car parked. Twice in the last month i’ve had car incidents with ensuing cost and grief. First i had a dumb fender bender on the way out to visit my brother west of town. It was stop-n-go traffic at rush hour, and during a split second looking at the clock, everyone in front of me stopped… but i didn’t. That got fixed a week or so ago, and then today while i was with the girls at the flower garden in Wirth Park, some cretins broke out the passenger window to grab my small courier bag from the front seat. The bag isn’t a huge loss, but they got my wallet, cell phone and prescription sunglasses. Assholes. They also broke into another car in the lot at the same time, and apparently Wirth has been a particular crime magnet this year.
It’s not like i’ve been driving a lot, but my incident-per-mile rate has skyrocketed lately, after years of no trouble at all. I think the world is telling me to get off my ass and get my average annual driving miles back into the respectable 5-digit range again.

Sorry to hear. Park-type places seem to be a hotbed of car break-ins. Maybe you could bait them in and get revenge.
Ick–sorry Bill!
So far it looks like they only charged $1 at each of 4 different Holiday stations, though yesterday the bank said they’d blocked an attempt at a larger transaction. I must say that my bank, insurance company and phone company have been excellent to work with on this so far. Even the DMV trip was a breeze, though i’m photo-ID-less until the new d/l comes in the mail. It’ll be a good lesson living on a mostly cash basis for a while.
I like the idea of baiting - electrified courier bag? bear trap?
Bummer! My car was also broken into at the Eloise Butler Wildflower Preserve, albeit this was about 1990-92. There were six cars broken into at the same time- the Park Police officer saw it, gave chase, got their license plate and ID’d them- but the inept Minneapolis Police Department never managed to make an arrest or- as far as I could tell, even investigated it further. In the meantime, my friend whose purse was stolen from its hiding place under the seat lost nearly $5000 via her ATM card. Might be the same assholes!
